Notice – Road Closures during Winter Carnival

To support Carnival events, temporary road closures and managed access points will be in place in advance, and throughout the weekend.

Road Closures & Getting Around

To support Carnival events, temporary road closures and managed access points will be in place in advance, and throughout the weekend, particularly around:

  • Columbia Avenue from Butte St. to Spokane St. (Friday Night Parade – 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.)
    • Impacting vehicle access & traffic along Columbia Ave. (Hwy 3B) between St. Paul St. and Spokane St. on Friday, January 23rd.
    • Parade staging to take place on Columbia Ave. near Butte St. – please choose an alternate route where possible.
    • Parking Restrictions: Parking will not be allowed on the closed streets during the closure periods.
  • Queen Street between First Ave. & Leroi Ave. (Ice Palace and Rail Jam)
    • Closure period: 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21st to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25th, 2026.
  • Spokane Street to Columbia Avenue (Bobsled Race) – including significant access limits on Saturday for residents along Spokane St. including Rossland Yards Residents Parking.
    • Race will be starting on Spokane St. at Planner Cres. (Turner Avenue will be used for staging and transporting).
    • Closure period: Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th, 2026.
    • The road will be sanded and accessible to vehicles immediately following the completion of the race.
    • Note that course development for the Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race may temporarily impact residents the days leading up to Carnival.

Residents, businesses, and visitors are asked to plan ahead, respect posted signage, and remove vehicles from affected areas during closure periods. Detours will be clearly marked.
