Midtown Transition Area

With the relocation of the EMCON Works Yard away from the Midtown Transition Area, a significant block of land became vacant. Given the redevelopment potential for this site, there was an accentuated need for an overall vision and plan for the broader neighbourhood. As a result, the City responded by establishing a steering committee and moving forward with a series of public consultations from late 2004 through 2005.

Public consultations included:

  1. a community survey to solicit feedback on the future of the neighbourhood;
  2. a public workshop to generate a general vision and guiding principles for development; and,
  3. a design charrette.

Throughout this period, detailed site analysis was also undertaken.  As a result of the community survey and public workshop, a number of key themes emerged.
