New Building and Planning Application Process
The City of Rossland is excited to announce the lauch of Cloudpermit, a new software designed to streamline the building and development permit process for builders, developers, businesses, and residents.
Starting on November 1, 2025, the City will be inviting you to track your building permits online from a computer or mobile device.
Benefits:
– Apply for building permits at any time of day, from any location with an internet connection. Save your work and finish it later.
– Check the status of your permit online and receive email updates on the progress.
– Communicate with the review team through a central location.
– Receive inspections straight to your email.
How to Submit an Application
To get started, register for a Cloudpermit account online: https://ca.cloudpermit.com/gov/login
Gather the information and supporting documents (eg. site plans, drawings, schedules, relevant reports) required for your submission before starting your application.

How to Submit A Building Permit Application
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an email confirmation. Within 2 business days, the City will email you an invoice with the amount payable for the permit application.
Payments
For building permits, a $50 application fee is due upon submittal. Planning application fees must be paid in full upfront. This can be paid online via credit card through the CloudPermit portal.

Online
Payments can be completed securely via Cloudpermit using Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, Mastercard Debit, Discover, Union Pay, or American Express. Please note that a 3% processing fee will be applied to all credit card transactions and paid directly to Moneris.
City Hall
Payments may be made in person at City Hall using cash, cheque, or debit card. Credit card payments processed on-site at City Hall are subject to a convenience fee of 2.75%.
Drop Box
Cheques can be deposited in the drop box located at the entrance of City Hall, 1920 Third Avenue.
Once paid, your application will enter the queue to be reviewed by the Planners and Building Officials.
The building permit fee will be set in the portal upon issuance.

FAQ
To help with the transition, the City will accept paper and email applications until December 1, 2025. During the transition period, applications submitted through Cloudpermit by applicants will be processed faster. Paper and email applications take longer to be organized, digitized, and reviewed for completeness by City staff during business hours before being uploaded to Cloudpermit.
Log in to Cloudpermit and view your workspace for the status of your application. You may see the submission progress through the following statuses: Draft, Submitted, Waiting for Payment, In Review, Ready to Issue, Permit Issued, Construction Started, or Finished. You’ll receive an email when your application changes status.
Yes. The City is working to add your permit data to Cloudpermit during the coming weeks. Once you’re in the system, you’ll receive an email asking you to register for a Cloudpermit account. You can then track your application and book inspections through Cloudpermit.
No. Your permit data will continue to flow through the old system (City Reporter) for 2026.
Go to the Cloudpermit homepage and click ‘Forgot your password’. Enter your email address to receive an email with instructions on how to set up your Cloudpermit password.
If your project isn’t ready for a final inspection before the permit expiry date, you can request a one-time Permit Extension , up to 30 days before the expiry date. At that point the Building Inspectors will determine whether the permit will transfer into CloudPermit or not.
Yes. When applying for a development permit, select the Planning Applications module. Your building permit application will not move forward until your planning application is complete.
