Under general supervision of the Manager of Recreation and Events, the Recreation Programmer and the Summer Camp Manager, the Senior Summer Camp Instructor leads all summer camp groups to their activities, performs a variety of recreation duties; provides leadership and direction for programs as needed; supervises facilities and excursions; provides guidance to campers engaged in recreation activities; maintains communication with parents and recreation staff and performs other duties as required.

JOB DESCRIPTION: SENIOR SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR 

CLOSING DATE: March 21, 2025 at 4:00 p. m.

COMPENSATION: $26.96/hour as per the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 2087 and the City of Rossland 

DEPARTMENT: Rossland Recreation 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides quality customer service and maintains positive relationships with the public and fellow staff members.
  2. Monitors summer camp activities and patrons to ensure safety and behavioral standards are maintained.
  3. Works with groups in implementing assigned programs.
  4. Performs building attendant tasks including set-up and take-down of equipment, tables and chairs as needed.
  5. Assures facilities, equipment and play areas are maintained in a clean, safe and satisfactory fashion. Checks for and reports safety hazards.
  6. Mentors junior instructors including Leaders in Training.
  7. Coordinates daily staff assignments in the absence of the Camp Manager. Assists with ensuring appropriate staffing levels, including responding to staff illness.
  8. Assists in the planning, development, leading and participation of a variety of summer camp activities.
  9. Maintains attendance, safety and activity records.
  10. Enforces rules and regulations governing assigned programs and completes incident reports.
  11. Renders first aid as necessary. 
  12. Addresses problems and concerns to the Summer Camp Manager or Recreation Department. 
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.

Applicants must submit a resume that includes all certifications and their expiry dates, along with a cover letter outlining availability throughout July and August, including any vacation time required.

Summer camps will run Monday to Friday from 8:30 am- 4:30 pm, July 6th -Aug 28th.

Senior Camp Instructor interviews will take place from March 30 to April 2, 2026.

All applicants must also be available for mandatory training throughout the evenings of June 22-26 (exact dates and times TBD) and June 29–30. These requirements apply to all Summer Camp positions with Rossland Recreation.
