Under general supervision of the Manager of Recreation and Events and the Recreation Programmer, the Summer Camp Manager leads all summer camp groups to their activities, performs a variety of recreation duties; provides leadership and direction for programs as needed; supervises facilities and excursions; provides guidance to campers engaged in recreation activities; mentors and supervises secondary instructors; maintains communication with parents and recreation staff and performs other duties as required.
JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMER CAMP MANAGER

COMPENSATION: $25.79/hour (currently) as per Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 2087 and the City of Rossland
DEPARTMENT: Rossland Recreation
The position starts June 23, 2025 for training and continues full time until the end of August 2025.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides quality customer service and maintains positive relationships with the public and fellow staff members.
- Monitors summer camp activities and patrons to ensure safety and behavioral standards are maintained.
- Responsible for summer camp staff scheduling and coordinates daily staff assignments. Ensures appropriate staffing levels, including responding to staff illness. Signs off on employee time sheets.
- Ensures summer camp staff are conducting themselves in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Plans, develops, leads and participates in a variety of summer camp activities.
- Act as lead on site contact for summer camp attendees and their families.
- Works and communicates with contract activity leaders and organizations in implementing assigned programs.
- Mentors and supervises Senior Summer Camp Instructors, Junior Summer Camp Instructors, volunteers and Leaders in Training.
- Assures that summer camp staff have required training and equipment to do their jobs professionally and safely.
- Performs routine preparation and site maintenance functions including organizing and transporting equipment and materials required for programming to various locations in Rossland.
- Assures facilities, equipment and play areas are maintained in a clean, safe and satisfactory fashion. Checks for and reports safety hazards.
- Maintains attendance, safety and activity records.
- Renders first aid as necessary.
- Addresses problems and concerns to the Recreation Department.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
