PLANNING ASSISTANT – PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Maternity Leave One-Year Temporary Position Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development Services, the Planning Assistant will be a customer-focused self-starter and team player with knowledge of municipal planning.
The Planning Assistant will be involved in a variety of technical and administrative activities related to the review and processing of applications and studies conducted by the Planning Department and managing the City’s ArcGIS mapping system. The Planning Assistant will:
• Have knowledge of land-use planning principles and Provincial legislation regarding land use and development;
• Be responsible for the preliminary processing of all applications for zoning, subdivision, development variances and development permits;
• Assist the public by providing information relating to land use controls and application procedures;
• Be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Official Community Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Subdivision Development Servicing Bylaw, other relevant regulations and utility locations;
• Assist the Manager of Planning and Development with the preparation of bylaws and reports on matters related to zoning, subdivision, building, and development;
• Update the City’s ArcGIS mapping system with as-built utility information and surveys as needed and produce maps for administrative staff and the public;
• Be proficient in computer use, including word processing, spreadsheets, ArcGIS 9.3 (ArcView license) and Auto-Cad;
• Perform other duties as required.
Applicants should outline their training and experience relevant to this position. Completion of a Planning Degree or related program is preferred, but a range of training and experience will be considered.
This is a CUPE Local 2087 bargaining position, offering a competitive rate and benefit package.

Tenders received and not conforming to the forgoing will be returned to the Tender(s) without
consideration. Tender Documents or Tender Amendments received via facsimile will not be
accepted.
The work comprises of, but is not limited to, approximately:
o Remove existing roofing products/systems and related flashings.
o Repair all damaged existing substrate and ensure proper fastening of remainder.
o Install ½” plywood sheathing overlay on existing substrate – Arena Roof.
o Install ¾” T & G plywood sheathing overlay on existing substrate – Curling Rink.
o Replace the aged roofing membrane(s) with TPO Membrane Roofing.
o Provide thermally broken insulation to the substrate.
o Install pre-finished flashing to exposed wood barge boards & fascia.
A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held on site at 1800 Second Avenue in the Curling Rink
lounge on February 2, 2010 at 2:00pm PST.
