News Release - Category 2 Open Fire Ban

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Monday, July 29, 2019, Category 2 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre's jurisdiction. A category 3 prohibition is currently in place. These prohibitions are in effect to help prevent human-caused wildfires and to protect public safety.

A map of the effected areas is displayed below, and can also be downloaded here.

These two fire prohibitions specifically include:

  • The burning of any material larger than half-meter high by a half-meter wide.
  • Stubble or grass fires of any size over any area.
  • The use of burn barrels or burn cages, air curtain barriers, sky lanterns, fireworks and/or binary exploding targets.

Both of these bans apply to all public and private land, unless specified otherwise by a government bylaw and will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.
